Finally, some good news. Ohio moves into the GOP column - not enought for McCain to win, but good news nonetheless.

Is it Pawlenty??…

If McCain is set to announce that Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is to be his running mate, this is clearly a sign that the presumptive nominee thinks that he can capture Pawlenty’s light-blue home state. It wouldn’t be a surprise, but in recent days we were clearly thinking that the pick would be Mitt […]

Ted’s Tally, July 24, 2008

Ted's Tally Comments (0)

Beginning with this survey, we have narrowed the count to one of four possible outcomes for each state:  Blue, Red, Tossup-Blue and Tossup-Red.

In this survey, we see the Democratic candidate, Sen. Barack Obama leading the Republican, Sen. John McCain, 207-183 electoral votes, without the toss-ups counted.

With the toss-ups, Obama leads 273-265, which is no change from last week, giving Obama +3 votes needed for victory.

Since the previous survey, however, Florida has shifting to the toss-up Red category.

Changes from last week’s survey
Florida 27, from Red to Tossup-Red.

2004 to 2008 projected changes
From Red to Blue (from 2004): Colorado, Iowa, and New Mexico
From Blue to Red (from 2004): None

Tossup Blue
Colorado 9
Michigan 17
New Mexico 5
New Hampshire 4
Pennsylvania 21
Wisconsin 10
Total: 66 ev

Tossup Red
Arkansas 6
Florida 27
Missouri 11
Nevada 5
Ohio 20
Virginia 13
Total: 82 ev

This survey is based on an assessment of state polls taken around the time this survey is released and doesn’t necessarily predict the actual outcome on November 4, 2008.

Obama and McCain are now tied in Florida, meaning that according to Electoral-vote.com, the count is now 292-192 Obama with 54 ties in the Electoral college. I will say this: if those ties (Florida, Missouri, North Dakota and Virginia, all red states in the past) return home to the GOP, a 292-246 count heading into August isn’t a bad place for John McCain to be in a very Democratic year. Of course, shifts of even one of those states in November to Barack Obama is very, very bad and could project a major DNC victory.  There are no ties in politics!

What’s in a Name?

General Postings Comments (0)

If you believe published reports, John McCain is thisclose to selecting a running mate.  Could we be seeing one of these very, very soon and which one?! We’ve included the names of who owns the following site names and whether or not there is something on the site right now.

McCainRomney.com - Local Business Services - Non-descriptive site.
McCain-Romney.com - Peter Pelland, MA - Anti-GOP site.

McCainPawlenty.com - Michael Deutsch, NJ, just a main screen
McCAIN-Pawlenty.com - Patrick Garofalo, M, no page

McCain-Crist.com - Harold Rhodes, Ma, parked page
McCainCrist.com - Network Solutions, parked page

What stands out is “McCain-Pawlenty.com” which looks to be owned by Pat Garofalo (R), the Assistant Minority House Whip in Minnesota, which might or might not mean a thing.

The La. Gov. must know something we will know soon: he isn’t going to be John McCain’s pick.  Our thoughts from the other day ring true, to some extent: it will be Crist, Romney, Pawlenty or Portman.  Betting men would say its Romney vs. Pawlenty, but since we picked Crist last week, we’ll stay with that, for now!
